If you enjoy visiting Raby Castle or have an interest in history and are looking for a way to meet new people, have you thought about volunteering?
The Castle is boosting its Volunteer Programme this year and is keen to hear from anyone who might be keen to learn about, and share Raby’s fascinating stories with visitors.
Current volunteers come from many backgrounds and previous careers and particularly enjoy the social aspect of coming together. They always make the most of their time at the start of the day and gather at the end of the day to chat over a coffee.
The ‘open season’ runs from March to September, but there are monthly gatherings throughout the year which include visits to other heritage properties and talks from visiting historians/specialists.
In the ‘closed season’ there is the chance to help the Curator in the archives and collections giving you unrivalled access to many areas and items in the Castle. Volunteering isn’t just limited to inside the Castle though and for those that prefer to be outside, there are other opportunities in the Gardens and wider Park.
If you think you might enjoy being part of the wonderful Volunteer team, why not get in touch with Alan McKerchar, Castle Custodian – Alan.McKerchar@raby.co.uk to arrange a visit to find out more?
