The tranquil spaces of the historic walled gardens at Raby Castle are a highlight for visitors and have been a haven for many during 2020. Created in the mid-18th century, for almost 300 years the beautiful walled gardens have grown and evolved as different generations have made their mark. The current owners are no exception and Lord and Lady Barnard are excited to share some of the plans for the next chapter in the story of the garden.
New for 2021, our Through the Garden Gates tour will look at the historic development of the garden at Raby and some of the people whose vision for these beautiful spaces have shaped what visitors see today. Our knowledgeable guides will highlight popular features of the garden, from the unique Yew hedges, to innovations that enabled tropical fruit to be grown in the less-than tropical climate of north-east England! Towards the end of the tour, a member of our expert garden team will also be on hand to share their experience of working in the gardens today.
