Packed with character, warmth and charm, High Force Hotel is an idyllic rural retreat in picture-perfect Upper Teesdale. Our 10 individually-designed en-suite rooms combine traditional country inn comfort with a contemporary touch, and nothing is too much trouble for our friendly team.
From walking through the scenic sights of Upper Teesdale to stargazing some of the darkest skies in the country High Force Hotel is the perfect place to explore the great outdoors and get some colour in your cheeks. And after all that exertion, there’s an ever-changing menu of seasonal flavours and local drinks to enjoy.
The Rooms
Every room at High Force Hotel has its own unique character and style. Inside, you’ll find antiques and oil paintings alongside modern-day luxuries like quality bed linen, fluffy towels and power showers. And our double beds are extra wide and extra comfortable – perfect for relaxing after a day exploring rolling dales and sun-dappled woods.
Perfectly Placed
There are miles and miles of footpaths to explore and unspoilt landscapes to enjoy in Upper Teesdale. The stretch of the Pennine Way between Low and High Force is widely considered one of the most beautiful walks in the country, taking in stunning wildflower meadows and iconic views along the way. Plus, there’s Raby Castle and Deer Park Bowes Museum and Barnard Castle on your doorstep, with Durham and Newcastle just a little further afield.

High Force Hotel and Waterfall is one of the most unique venues in the country. The hotel set in the midst of High Force, arguably England’s most spectacular waterfall and surrounded by some of the most stunning unspoilt natural scenery in the country. We are blessed to be one of the most romantic wedding venues in County Durham.
Corporate Events
The High Force Hotel offers a range of spaces for corporate events and meetings. Choose from our cosy bar areas, sit by the fire in the snug or relax in our beautiful Garden Room. Or in the summer months enjoy our wide open spaces where you can work outdoors on the patio, in the courtyard or in the garden.
Due to our fantastic, rural setting the hotel is popular for hosting team-building events, allowing colleagues to explore the great outdoors. We can arrange for a variety of outdoor activities such as archery, clay pigeon shooting, climbing and kayaking.
“I just wanted to let you know what a fantastic time we had at the weekend! We were staying at The High Force Hotel with friends for our 36th wedding anniversary & it was absolutely wonderful. It is a beautiful, welcoming hotel with gorgeous rooms, very comfy bed (almost too comfortable as I didn’t want to get up!) and delicious food…. what a fine breakfast!!
However what makes the place exceptional is the high standard of service from such a delightful team of staff. We thoroughly enjoyed the waterfall walks, then went on to Raby Castle & a bonus that there was the Classic Car Show on!

“Had a great stay at High Force Hotel, the staff were wonderful, really helpful, friendly and offered great service. The food in the restaurant was 10/10, superb, we had the soup and the rib of beef. We don’t normally have soup but is was superb. The rib was really tasty, the gravy was rich and served with vegetables and for pudding we had home made sticky pudding again 10/10. Stayed in room 8 which was extremely clean and well presented, bed was really comfy. I book around 60 hotels per annum and this place is going into in my top 3, ever. Highly recommend if you are in the area.”
