General FAQs

Is High Force dog friendly?

Absolutely! Dogs are very welcome at High Force Waterfall and in the Hotel. We would ask that visitors please keep dogs on leads during your visit to protect our sensitive plants and wildlife. Be especially careful with dogs around the car park area, not only for the safety of your dog but also to protect livestock in adjoining fields.

We also offer pet friendly rooms at the hotel. A small fee of £10 per stay applies, and if you let us know at the time of booking, we’ll add some ‘doggie treats’ to your room ready for your arrival. Situated where we are, you’ll be spoilt for choice for ‘walkies’. Please ask a member of staff for more information.

Is photography allowed?

We encourage our guests and visitors to take pictures of the wonderful scenery around us and we would love for you to share them with us too on our social media pages. However, prior permission must be sought from the Raby Estate for any commercial photography or filming. The use of drones on or above the ground at High Force is also strictly prohibited without express prior permission, this is to protect the health and safety of all visitors and staff. Drones have been known to cause disturbances to wildlife and birds. Anyone caught flying a drone will be asked to leave by our staff.

Can I bring a picnic?

Visitors are permitted to bring along a picnic to enjoy at the bottom of the waterfall where there is an area of rocks to sit on. However, at certain times the gate leading from the viewing gallery down to the water’s edge may be closed for visitor safety. We would recommend enjoying your picnic in the carpark where there are designated picnic benches.

How much is admission to the waterfall?

Waterfall admission costs £2.50 for an adult, £1 for a child and under 4s go free.

Where do I buy tickets?

Waterfall tickets can be purchased on site at our Kiosk or inside the Hotel. Please ask a member of our team to direct you.

What is my admission used for?

Admission fees apply to help us maintain the footpaths and walkways and keep routes safe and open throughout the year. It also ensures our staff can clear litter and helps us to reduce our impact on the local environment by working with nature to protect sensitive wildlife.  We are committed to preserving and protecting our site for future generations to enjoy.

Are there refreshments available?

Our Kiosk, located in the carpark, is open seasonally and offers a range of snacks and drinks. If you would like a full meal, the hotel serves delicious, home-cooked food, from breakfast, snacks and lunches right through to evening meals. Pre-booking is advised for our Restaurant. Please call us on 01833 622336 to make a reservation and check opening times before your visit.

Are there toilet facilities?

Yes – toilet facilities are located in the carpark and are open daily from 10am – 4pm.

Where can I park?

If you are coming to visit us at the High Force Hotel and Waterfall, we have a 24-hour car park available right outside the Hotel. Please note, this is managed by an external company and there is a charge to use the car park, unless you are staying at the Hotel overnight. However, if you are coming for a meal in our restaurant and spend more than £10, you can also claim back the cost of parking.

Prices are £3 for 3 hours, or £6 for 6 hours and tickets can be purchased at the ticket machine which now offers contact-less payment, on the parking app or at the Hotel. If you would like all-day parking please pay inside the Hotel.

If you have any difficulty with parking at High Force, please ask our friendly team for assistance, or contact us by phone on 01833 622336.

Is the waterfall walk accessible?

Our walk to High Force Waterfall is accessible. However, the gravel path down to the viewing platform is on a gradual slope so visitors may require support getting there and back. Our circular route contains a large flight of stairs and uneven ground, but visitors with mobility difficulties can return using the original path without doing the second part of the route.
