Local Walks & Natural Beauty Spots

High Force Waterfall

High Force Waterfall

Adjacent to the hotel is a lovely 20-30 minute circular route to High Force Waterfall. This walk is of medium difficulty that will take you along the River Tees to the viewing area at the bottom of High Force and returns via the woodlands.

Gibson’s Cave

A short walk along the river from Bowlees Visitor Centre, you’ll stumble across Summerhill Force and Gibson’s Cave. Local legend has it that the cave was once the hiding place of a 16th century outlaw.

Low Force Waterfall

Along the river Tees you’ll find Low Force Waterfall. Enjoy a 1.5 – 2 hour walk along the Pennine Way visiting the falls and Bowlees Visitor Centre. Offering fantastic views across Teesdale, take in the wildflowers along the Tees Bank, and cross over the exhilerating Wynch Bridge. You can either return the same way or make it a circular route via public footpaths on the opposite side of the river.

Cow Green Reservoir

A few miles from the hotel, you’ll find the expansive Cow Green Reservoir and Cauldron Snout Waterfall which makes for a lovely afternoon stroll. Or turn it into a 3-4 hour day hike from the hotel along the Pennine Way footpath.
