Hilton Hall

The Raby Buildings Team have completed their latest restoration project Hilton Hall, a grade 2* listed building.

The Raby Estates team have been carefully restoring and renovating the historic building whilst retaining its unique historic features. The original ceiling mouldings and timber shutters have been kept and restored using traditional methods. During the investigative works, the team also uncovered historic elements of the former chapel of St Catherine, a chantry to Staindrop Church with which we have worked closely with Durham County Council and Historic England to retain this historical feature.

The property has been updated for modern living, a new central heating system has been installed. The grounds have also undergone a full renovation with a new circular driveway and formal garden overlooking the nearby village of Ingleton

The Estate hosted an open day on Thursday 6th October for local visitors to come and see the incredible transformation of this historic property. The final property comprises of 4 bedrooms with 2 en-suites, large kitchen and living room with original decorative features and would make an ideal family home.

Unthank

Unthank is now approaching its final push to completion following a year long refurbishment. The house is now fully watertight and the newly installed central heating has been commissioned, making the house a lovely place to work in the final months. It has been challenging throughout the refurbishment due to the structural integrity of the building; new foundations have been poured when needed so it has truly been re-built from the ground up. The techniques we have used are in keeping with traditional methods, but making sure the house will last the test of time. The property has been whitewashed as part of its final works, which will make it stand out in Upper Teesdale and is in keeping with the rest of the Raby Estates portfolio. We have brought some inventive ideas to Unthank including under floor heating throughout the ground floor making it economical to heat and maintain its heat. The large open plan kitchen and dining room has views looking down the Dale from its Bi-Folding doors and southern facing windows.
