About Raby Estates
The Raby Estate comprises substantial landholdings and trading operations including in-house farms, let farms and residential property, along with sporting enterprises and forestry management across Estates in Co Durham and Shropshire.
As well as the Estate’s own Home Farm in Raby Park, there are many tenanted farms and a large number of houses and cottages in villages around Teesdale, many are whitewashed farmsteads and houses where families have been tenants for several generations.
Visitor attractions include Raby Castle in County Durham, High Force Hotel and Waterfall in Upper Teesdale and The Wrekin in Shropshire. Raby Castle near Staindrop has been the home of the Vane family for generations and is open to visitors. Lord and Lady Barnard seek to develop the Castle and grounds so that it becomes one of the foremost visitor attractions in the North.
Our Departments
The Leisure and Tourism department is a fast-paced and exhilarating place to work at Raby. From the majestic Raby Castle to the High Force Hotel and Waterfall in Upper Teesdale, to the Wrekin in Shropshire. Roles in this department include hospitality, retail, administration, archives, events and more.
Our hard-working Forestry team enjoy varied work throughout the year. From the management of Christmas trees throughout the winter period, to spring planting and general maintenance. We are passionate about sustainable forestry and conserving our environment for future generations.
Based at our scenic Raby Home Farm, tasks include management of livestock including our Longhorn Cattle. Alongside this, vast arable land offers a range of opportunities.
Working alongside our Durham Land Agent, our land management department covers conservation and environmental projects, sporting and land supporting tenants on the estate.
The Finance and Administration team supports everyone across the estate and is a vital part of our day-to-day operations. From assisting with customer enquiries, to accounts and book-keeping to payroll and human resources, there is a range of opportunities to explore within this department.
If you’re passionate about working in historic locations, the buildings team offers an array of opportunities. From the careful restoration and conservation of Raby Castle to Gainford Hall and rural properties across the estate, there is a myriad of buildings to work on. Roles include Joiners, Construction Support, Labourers and Trades Workers.
Part of the Raby team are based on our Shropshire Estate, near the beautiful Wrekin Hill, part of the Shropshire Hills AONB. Roles include land management and administration.
