Date: Saturday 13th September | Location: Raby Castle Gardens | Price: £65.75 per person
Join us for an inspiring half-day workshop with Becky Crowley, Raby’s Walled Garden Assistant Head Gardener, and learn how to design and grow your own ornamental cutting garden. This half day workshop will give you inspiration, ideas and practical advice to help you grow beautiful seasonal flowers for cutting. Becky will show you how to plan your garden for both beauty and productivity. She’ll give an overview of the cutting garden she has designed here at Raby Castle alongside Luciano Giubbilei, and draw on her previous experience as a cut flower grower at Chatsworth House and the Floret Flower Farm in Washington state.
Becky will share her planning methods and tips for designing your own unique cutting garden. You’ll learn about the practicalities of laying out your growing space and how to achieve a succession of flowers throughout the year. She’ll advise on the tasks to do now and walk you through key tasks for each season to ensure you have a clear idea of what you can do and when for a year filled with flowers. Whether you’re growing in a large plot or a small urban space, she’ll guide you through how to make your own flower-filled haven.
What you’ll learn:
– Planning a garden for both beauty and productivity
– How to design your space for a continuous supply of seasonal blooms
– Practical tasks for each season – what to do and when
– Organic principles for creating a healthy, life-filled garden
The session will include a presentation indoors, followed by a visit to our cutting garden and glasshouse to explore what’s growing and what tasks are happening now. There’ll also be plenty of time for your own questions.
Becky is passionate about sharing her experience and helping gardeners of all levels – from seasoned growers to absolute beginners – create vibrant, sustainable flower gardens they can enjoy all year round.
