Watch out, Raby – here comes Horrible Histories!

Join us this autumn for a Horrible Histories takeover of over Raby Castle! From 4th  October to 9th November we’re turning back clock to the Measly Middle-Ages. With dark knights, savage sieges and foul food – come and explore our crackin’ castle as seen through the eyes of the bestselling Horrible Histories books written by Terry Deary and illustrated by Martin Brown, published by Scholastic.

Discover what went on in a dingy castle and decide for yourself whether it was LOVELY or LOATHSOME!

Explore stories of luxurious lives of lords and ladies, to the grim world of the spit boy and the gong farmer – our TERRIFIC TRAIL will guide you through the characters of the castle with activities inspired by the Horrible Histories world.

  • Explore our crackin’ castle: our self-guided trail shows the castle in a whole new light! Look out for fantastic fortifications and foul food!
  • Pick up a TERRIFIC TRAIL sheet: meet the cast of characters, from powerful nobles to pitiful peasants.
  • Get your hands on history: as Raby’s medieval guard room is transformed into a space packed with activities exploring medieval life from fabulous feasts to painful punishments
