Embrace imperfection with a Kintsugi style ceramic repair workshop.
In this hands-on session, you will learn the art of embracing imperfection, turning broken pieces into beautiful, one-of-a-kind works of art.
Kintsugi, which translates to “golden joinery,” is the art of repairing broken ceramics. Rather than hiding the cracks, Kintsugi highlights and celebrates them, turning the mended piece into a stunning mosaic of resilience and beauty.
During the workshop, you will be guided by our experienced Conservation Officer, Davina who will share the history and philosophy behind Kintsugi. You’ll have the opportunity to bring your own broken ceramic item, whether it’s a cherished dish, a teacup, or a sentimental decorative piece. As you carefully mend the fractures, you’ll witness the transformation of flaws into radiant, golden veins.
All necessary materials will be provided, you just need to bring along a broken ceramic i.e. tea cup, saucer, small bowl etc. They need only to be broken up to a maximum 5 pieces. If you don’t already have a broken item please feel free to bring along a small ceramic item that you would be happy to break before or during the workshop.
The event will last 2 hours to include the workshop and a tour of the Castle with one of our wonderful guides.
No prior experience in ceramics or art is required; this workshop is open to all skill levels.
