Join us on the last Saturday of January, February and March for our brand new guided walks, taking a deeper look at some of the Secret Buildings of Raby.
Led by Raby Estate’s Curator, enjoy a leisurely walk to see the building that was historically the Estate Laundry.
This was originally created as the ‘Estate Laundry and Washrooms’ in the early 20th century, this site was chosen for its isolated location, with the aim of being able to avoid contaminating living areas with laundry smells.
A plan for “A New Laundry” from 1903 shows a large area for worker accommodation, along with a laundry, washhouse, lavatory, store and other ancillary spaces. The outside of the building was developed to fit in with the designed landscape of Raby.
This is a fantastic opportunity to see a building not usually accessible to the general public and to learn more about this fascinating site.
