Grab your apron and roll up your sleeves… Stir-up Sunday is coming to Raby Castle!
Stir-up Sunday is a centuries-old tradition where cooks spend the last Sunday before Advent ‘stirring up’ the Christmas pudding. Dating back to Victorian times, the whole family took a turn at stirring the Christmas pudding, making a wish.
Estate Chef Tom Parry will lead a demonstration in the Medieval Kitchen, guests will then be instructed on how to make a Traditional Christmas Pudding.
Please bring along your favourite large mixing bowl to make your Christmas Pudding in to take home with you.
Testimonials
To everyone concerned, thank you so very much for a lovely morning, the tour around the castle and I was thrilled to bits to be making a Christmas pudding in that lovely old kitchen that I have visited so many times. Our guide was informative and funny and what can I say about the chef, he kept us all on the right path and I learnt so much and the atmosphere was fantastic. A really enjoyable experience, we are so lucky to be able to visit Raby Castle and look forward to more of the same next year.
– Susan Long, 2022I attended the Stir Up Sunday workshop on Sunday. First of all I just wanted to say a big thank you for such a wonderful day! I felt so lucky to see the trees going up and being decorated, the tour was incredibly interesting (you have a brilliant and very knowledgeable tour guide! She was so engaging and enthusiastic!) and we LOVED the workshop! Tom was so helpful and shared so many tips, it was amazing to be cooking in the kitchen – absolutely beautiful.
